Before you begin creating a survey, decide what you want to measure with the survey. With this in mind, compose a list of questions that will be included in the survey. For advice on survey content, read our article on Writing Effective Survey Questions
Compose the list of survey items in your word processor. This will allow you to edit the items for spelling and grammar. When you create the survey, you can simply copy and paste the list of questions into the Survey Administrator. Note that when you copy and paste your survey items, you should NOT include item numbers as these will be assigned automatically.
In preparation, you should also review the tutorial sections Survey Components and Using Demographic Questions listed under "Getting Started". These sections will help you understand the various components of the survey and allow you to prepare for them ahead of time.
Finally, consider reviewing the sample surveys available on our web site. These samples allow you to see what the finished survey will look like and understand the different question formats.
