Survey Features in Detail


The following list of features are available to you when you create a survey using CustomInsight. In addition to the features listed here, we specialize in custom survey implementations designed to meet your specific needs.

When Creating a Survey, you can...

Define Survey Questions
We have a complete list of question formats for you to choose from. Click here to see some samples. Your survey can consist of any combination of these question formats. Standard question types include:
  • Likert Rating Scales (e.g. Strongly Agree to Strongly Disagree)
  • Semantic Differential
  • Yes/No
  • Multiple Choice Buttons or Check Boxes
  • Drop-Down Lists
  • Single-Line Text
  • Multi-Line Text
  • Numeric Fill-In (including plain numbers, currency, and percentage values)
  • Ranked Choices
  • "Mixed Matrix" - combine options listed above into a grid of questions
Define Survey Logic
You can define conditional branching rules that determine which questions to include or exclude based on answers to previous questions (also known as "Skipping"). Features include:
  • INCLUDE or EXCLUDE - Choose whether to include or exclude questions when defining a branching rule.
  • Multiple Item Branching - Include or Exclude questions based on answers to a combination of previous questions.
  • AND / OR - When branching based on multiple questions, decide whether all or just one of the conditions must be met.
Specify Demographic Questions
Use demograhic questions to compare responses from different groups when generating reports. You can specify whether responses will be required or optional.

Control Page Breaks
You decide which items will appear together on a single web page and when to include a page break between items. This allows you to break up a longer survey into logical and more digestible sections or to keep a shorter survey all together on a single page.

Control Survey Access
You can choose to give respondents a simple URL to access your survey or require them to enter a password for more secure access. In addition, our Email Manager enables you to send unique links to a list of respondents if you want to track individual responses and know who has and has not completed the survey.

Ask for Personal Info
Ask respondents to provide specific personal information
  • Several default fields available. (e.g. name, email address, phone number, etc.)
  • Define your own custom fields
  • Specify whether each field is required or optional
Email Completed Responses
You can specify an email address where a copy of each completed survey response will be sent.

Customize the Look & Feel
  • Add your company's logo at the top of every page
  • Specify background and font colors
  • In addition, we can set up an integrated customized look and feel that reflects your company's website or corporate image. This custom look can be automatically applied to all your surveys. (Not a standard feature.)
Customize Instructions
We provide a list of standard instructions that apply to all survey respondents, but you can customize these if you prefer.

Survey Preview and Testing
You can preview your survey at any time while you are creating it. When you have finished creating your survey, you can test it out as much as you want before launching. You can go back and make changes at any point along the way.

Additional features that you can include or exclude:

Stop Button
You can include or exclude the "stop" button which allows respondents to stop filling out the survey and come back to finish it later.

Paper Version for Respondents
You can allow respondents to download a paper version of the survey for their personal reference or to complete off-line. The paper version is an MS Word document. If a respondent has completed all or part of the survey, the paper version will include these responses.

Choose whether to include item numbers on your survey

Welcome Letter
The optional welcome letter lets you include a welcome message at the beginning of the survey.

Exit Page
Specify an optional exit page where respondents will be directed upon completion of the survey. If you do not specify an exit page, respondents will see our default exit page.

Monitor Responses
Access real-time monitoring of survey responses whenever you log in. Features include:
  • See how many people have completed the survey and how many are still in progress
  • For those in progress, see what percentage of the survey has been completed
  • View each individual respondent's details, including the response date, answers to each survey item, percent complete, and personal info (if any)
  • Mark incomplete responses as "complete" so they can be included in your final reports
  • Generate a complete set of reports at any time
Clone Your Survey
You can make an exact copy of your survey - useful if you want to re-administer an old survey or offer a slightly different version of an existing survey. A cloned survey can be edited independently of the original.

Send Email
Use the Email Manager to send anonymous or unique survey invitations.

Print a Paper Version
A completely formatted paper version of your survey is automatically available for download. The paper version is an MS Word document.

And of course, Generate Real-Time Reports in a variety of formats on demand.
